Replication Manager Service Guidelines
Replication Manager Service Guidelines
Failover Testing
- A Failover Test must be scheduled as a Maintenance Window with Rackspace by your account’s Primary Contact at least 15 business-days in advance and is subject to scheduling availability.
- By default, Rackspace schedules the Failover Test to be concluded within 7 days. Your specific Failover Test may be concluded in less than 7 days if your Target Site does not have sufficient disk space to maintain replication during the Failover Test.
- During a Failover Test, no backups of the Temporary Target Site Virtual Machines will occur.
- When a Failover Test is concluded, the Temporary Target Virtual Machines will be destroyed at the Target Site. Any modifications made to the Temporary Target Virtual Machines during a Failover Test are not applied to the Source Site or Target Site.
- A Failover Test may be disruptive to services at the Source Site depending on your specific configuration.
Unplanned Failover
- The Primary Contact for your account must request that Rackspace EXECute an Unplanned Failover. Rackspace does not automatically initiate an Unplanned Failover in the event of an unplanned outage.
- Rackspace services customer requests for EXECuting an Unplanned Failover on a first come, first serve basis.
- During an Unplanned Failover, Source Virtual Machines will be powered-off if they can be contacted from the Target Site. If the Production Recovery plan is configured to power-off Virtual Machines at the Target Site, those Virtual Machines will be powered off. Replication from the Source Site to the Target Site is then discontinued and Target Virtual Machines are powered on.
- After an Unplanned Failover, replication is not re-established from the Source Site to the Target Site until the customer requests reverse replication.
- If, following an Unplanned Failover, the Source Site becomes available and the customer desires to use the Source Site instead of the Target Site, Rackspace will need to re-configure Replication Manager and perform a complete re-setup of both the Source Site and Target Site. This will require a scheduled Maintenance window.
Planned Migration
- A Planned Migration must be scheduled as a Maintenance Window with Rackspace by your account’s Primary Contact at least 15 business-days in advance and is subject to scheduling availability.
- After a Planned Migration has completed, reverse replication from the Target Site to the Source Site is automatically performed. This will overwrite data at the source site.
